Dreams – Helping Horses – Helping People

I love them! I would live in a barn with as many as I could, if finances allowed. It’s a passion of mine. Passion is a driving force for the soul. My dream is to one day make enough money with Pink Zebra to open a rescue program in our area. Equestrian therapy, helping the community with jobs, I could go on and on about my dreams and future plans. Helping horses, helping people. Well that just screams heaven on earth to me.

My nephew Devin suffers from a rare genetic disease known as PMD. He is and always will be wheelchair bound. The thought of putting him on a horse and giving him the legs he does not have drives me. One day it will happen. My reasons why are big enough.

I got to talk to this special little man on the phone yesterday! My heart broke and soared at the same time. I snuffed back tears. We have not seen each other since 2011. The miles keep us apart only physically. This young man holds a special place in my heart that not many understand. I was the first to find out my sister was pregnant with him. He was my first nephew. He made me an aunt.

So, I was digging through some old photos and found some pictures of my favorite horses.  Our Honey was our first rescue horse. Her spirit could not be matched. Her love and affection for my children shined through her abuse from day one.  Unfortunately all we could do was give her the best life she could have until she took her final breath.

Here’s our beloved Honey with our second oldest daughter. Honey loved having the kids on her back. It was her purpose.

My favorite horse I’ve ever owned was Axel. I named him after Axel Rose.. For all you G&R lovers out there. Lol

He was the first horse I ever bonded with. Now if you have ever bonded with an animal you know the feeling.. Bonding with this horse did something to me. I will always be connected to him. He was the one who let me cry my river of tears into his mane when my mom died. He was the first to show me what earning a horses trust and respect meant.  The day we sold him, my heart shattered. Thankfully I sold him to friends, so I can visit him. It’s still too hard though. I miss him so much.

My bond with Sky is different. She respects me as her herd leader, but she can never take the place of that baby boy who I love so dearly.  Sky has a much wilder spirit than Axel. She is a beautiful animal and great companion. My love for her will last forever. She’s very strong willed!!

I’m all out of order here… Maybe lack of sleep! The first horse we ever owned was Bailey. She LOVED the kids and food. Lots of food. We miss her too. She went to a good home and is still being enjoyed by children. I’m sure this makes her happy!!

Never Give Up

Never Give Up Pink Zebra

Never give up. Let those words sink in for a minute.  NEVER GIVE UP.

This is a hard one for me. The first time I was thrown from a horse, I wanted to quit.  Every bone in my body hurt. I was covered in bruises, cuts, dirt, blood, and tears.  Most people will give up here.  If you’ve ever heard someone talk about their horse experience and now they are scared of them.  This is because they gave up.  People make their minds up that the fall is all there is.

In life this is true too.  We wrap ourselves in the internet world, we shut out reality, friends who have hurt us, parents who left us.  Your fall is different from my fall.  Just like riding a horse, you have to get back on. Overcome that fear and realize the fall doesn’t define you, it’s just a lesson to be learned.  Learn from your falls, pray, and get back on that horse of life.

The only way you can fail, is if you give up.  Never give up!

Blessings,

Emily

Springtime at the Farm! Meet our New Horse!

The month of April has brought new beginnings to our life.  There is something about Spring that has always helped me out of the winter blues, so to speak.  More time outside with family and friends, sunshine to soak up, and time to just lay down outside and surrender all to God.  The land is turning greener by the day!

This Spring has been extra special for us.  We have a few new additions to our family.  As I have posted before, we had to put our Welsh Pony down last month.  That was difficult.   I had a bit of what you would call “empty nest” or “empty stall” in my case.  Kenan blessed me with a new horse!

Meet Sky –

Sky Paint Horse

Sky is an 11 year old Paint mare.  She is beautiful, full of energy, and has a personality that is just amazing!  Of course she’s a mare so she tends to be a little “moody” at times.  But what female isn’t! LOL! I know I have my moments. Shocker right?!  She has made such a huge impact on our family in such a short time.

Sky

The children and I have spent hours looking at her markings.  We think Paint horses are like clouds.  You always see something different every time you look at them.   It’s been a nice escape from reality on stressful days.

Paint Mare

She’s been very fun to ride.  She’s had a little attitude from time to time. She’s trying to see just how far she can push me.   Establishing dominance and trust with her has been very easy.

Sky and myself on an afternoon ride. My view!

Horse ViewThe best seat in the world! In my opinioI prefer riding bitless.  She’s taken a snaffle bit well but for just trotting around the land and down the road, her halter is all I need.  She’s a good girl.

The kids are in love with her!  We’ve taken it slow letting them ride since everything is still new to her.  But here’s a couple pics of my babies on her.  She’s done amazing!

This is Ethan and Allison riding together.  As you can tell by the look on their faces, I think it’s safe to say they’re enjoying her.

Hailee is still a little nervous on her.  So we are taking it slow and retraining Hailee how to ride.  She was thrown off our gelding a couple years ago. But Hailee always gets back up! Proud of her!

And just like any child (horse) as soon as she gets a bath…

Horse Rolling

We’re also expanding our flock of chickens!!!

Baby Chicks

I know, you just said… awww!

I also have a shipment of Australorps coming in tomorrow!  I had to order them from a hatchery.  Australorps are amazing egg producers. Can you say, YUM!?

We currently have 2 roosters.  Our big Production Red’s name is Cujo. We also have a little Bantam rooster named, Ferb.  Ferb thinks he’s in charge but every now and then Cujo puts him in his place, or visa versa.  My oldest daughter snapped a picture of the “chicken dance”.

I hope Spring has brought many new beginnings to you and yours.  I’d love to hear from you!

God Bless,

Emily

Good-Bye Honey and a Pink Zebra Update!

March has turned out to be a pretty busy month for the Dibrell family.  We had to say goodbye to one of our family members, our rescue horse Honey.  She was older than we originally thought and the long term damage from her previous owners that neglected and abused her was beyond repair.  Her major organs were damaged.  We came home one evening to her lying in the pen.  It took us hours to get her back on her feet, the next day, she was down again.  Our amazing vet came out as soon as she could and told us she was suffering.  The only choice we had was to put her to sleep.

Image

It has taken a while to get used to the fact that she is no longer with us.  The children decorated her grave and made it beautiful. Honey was the first one to greet you when you ventured out to our house, and the last one to say goodbye.  Such a warm welcome.  For a horse, her personality is one that will go down in the history of our little family.  We will never forget her!  We love you Honey.

Our family came down with this seasonal allergy, cold junk shortly after Honey passed away.  It seems the older I get, the harder it is to bounce back even from a simply cold, allergy, whatever the heck that was.

Pink Zebra Logo

Pink Zebra still continues to bless our family.  Even though I’ve been a little out of it this month due to death and illness in our family.  Residual income is an amazing blessing to us.  Even if I can only devote a few hours a week to my business, it still continues to grow and bring in much needed income.  Pink Zebra is something our family has been praying for.  If a tragedy or illness strikes, I don’t have to worry about not getting a paycheck, loosing days at work, having to take vacation time, or answering to a boss who may be less than understanding.  I know I say it a lot but seriously, I love my job.  With 36 amazing team members. I cannot wait to see how many I have on my team come August 15th. My 1 year anniversary with Pink Zebra.   It’s still a little ways away but just the thought of all the new friendships and lives touched is so exciting!

Horses…what can I say about them? I love them. I am passionate about them.  There is just something about a horse that I cannot explain.  They are powerful, intelligent, beautiful creatures designed by our Creator.

“Do you give the horse its strength
or clothe its neck with a flowing mane?
Do you make it leap like a locust,
striking terror with its proud snorting?
It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength,
    and charges into the fray.
 It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing;
it does not shy away from the sword.
The quiver rattles against its side,
along with the flashing spear and lance.
 In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground;
it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.
At the blast of the trumpet it snorts, ‘Aha!’
It catches the scent of battle from afar,
the shout of commanders and the battle cry.

Job 39:19-25

Let me tell you a story about one special little pony, Honey.

Image

Sunday will be 4 weeks since Honey became a part of our family.   She is a Welsh Pony.  We are not sure how old she is.  In her teens is all we know based on her teeth.

We got a call one day from a friend who owns or old horse Axel.  She told us about this rescue horse that the neighbors were wanting to give away.  Well, my heart sunk when I heard details about this poor baby.  The family and I went to meet her.  When I laid eyes on her, my heart broke.  This poor baby was starved to the brink of death.  The couple who had rescued her told us that when they first got her, they did not think she was going to make it through the night!

She needed love, food, and she needed to feel safe. This we could do.  We made arrangements to pick her up later in the week.  I felt sick leaving her.

My husband and oldest daughter worked so hard setting up her pin.  I was working that day, but was so grateful to come home and see it complete!  The day had finally come when we could get her!  We woke up WAY too early on a Sunday morning.  I’m talking like 7am folks!  Yeah I know, not that early to some, but to me.. geeze.   Anyway, coffee in hand, we bring this sweet scared pony home.  And the spoiling begins….Image

My girls were thrilled!  We were finally horse owners again after a long year without any.. A very long year I might add.

So here are some glamor shots of honey’s progress.. It is going to take a while to get her back into shape.  But she is progressing nicely for only having her about 4 weeks.  I will post more later on her progress as she continues to gain weight and get healthier.
