2014 started with a bang!

Owning Your Own Business and Getting out of Debt!

Like millions of Americans out there, Kenan and I have struggled with an ugly 4 letter word. DEBT.  For years it seemed like we were just facing one disaster after another.  Repossessions, unpaid medical bills, credit cards piling up.  Since we didn’t have a savings account set up for an emergency fund, every emergency threw us that much further into debt. Car repairs, a death in the family, job changes, attorney fees, etc.  Things that we should have been able to handle, had we managed our money better.  We look back and realize that we cannot pinpoint the moment we were living outside of our means and depending on credit like so many others out there.  Can you relate to any of this.  All we knew is that we were facing foreclosure on our house, among other bills that were piling up.  We were drowning in a sea of debt.  Being a slave to the lender, as the bible states, really put stress on our family and our marriage.  Kenan felt like he was not doing his part as provider of the family. I felt like I was a failure at budgets… The children couldn’t go to that certain movie with friends because we only had $100 for groceries that week.  

Over the past year since we’ve owned our owned business, we sacrificed a lot to get it up and running.  Just like ANY business you have to put time and effort into it to see the fruits of your labor.  We knew that it would get a lot harder before it got any better.  Whatever we made off of Pink Zebra went straight back into our business.  Business supplies, vendor events, customer gifts, etc.  

These past couple of months we have seen the fruit of our labor really taking effect.  We are very excited to announce that the majority of our large bills are now covered every month by my commission check from Pink Zebra.  The money we make from our business during the month off of sales, etc., goes towards our families expenses.  The kids events, a full tank of gas, etc.  Keeping a record of what profits we have made and what part of that we can put into our own lives and not just back into the business, helps.  

If you feel you are not making money with your current business, keep a log of all money made and all money put out. Where it goes and if you get a return on that investment.  I can say that any profits we have put back into our business have not gone to waste.

The feeling of treading water is starting to pass and we can see the shore ahead.  Stay focused on your goals, make a 2-5 year business plan and stick with it.  It won’t be easy, there are times you will cry and want to give up.  Don’t give up.  The only way you can fail in direct sales is by giving up!

If you’ve been in your business a while and have been working it and not seeing the growth you imagined (after a reasonable amount of time) maybe it’s time to look for a company that is growing rapidly.  The first 1-5 years are the best time to get into a new Direct Sales company.  There are many to choose from but we are loyal and dedicated to Pink Zebra.  The family, relationships, all of it are just beyond our wildest dreams.  

I pray for blessings over your business and any debt demon you are fighting.  You must take action or things will never change.

Today I Will….

Have you ever come to this place of contentment.  This place where you forget where you came from because your are so focused on where you are going?  What’s worse is that you should be focusing on the now anyway!  What we do today shapes our future. Today’s actions become tomorrows success or failure.  

Here lately I’ve been looking a bit too much forward.  I know what I want. I know that if it is God’s Will for me, it WILL happen. I know that if it doesn’t happen, God has something better for me is store.  So why am I so worried about tomorrow, today?

When I think back about where I was a few years ago.. I’ve come a long way.  11 years ago, holy cow, that was a person I don’t even recognize now.  It was an empty shell for a lost soul. Empty until a Savior picked me up and filled me with His Spirit. Emily before Christ would shock most of you. 

I don’t understand how I so easily forget all the amazing things God has done for me in the past.  He delivered me from my worst nightmares, carried me through pain and loss even before I knew Him, and He is still holding on just as strong as I type this.  When I do look back through my eyes I see pain.  I don’t see the good, just the bad.  When I look back in a positive light, I see the blessings far outweigh the bad.  I just can’t shake the bad sometimes.

Today I plan of just being thankful for the here and now.  Thankful for a family who loves me, thankful for my crazy messy house, thankful for the children who are already covered in dirt by 10am. I’m going to be thankful for all of that and more!  No looking forward to tomorrow, no looking back at the past.  I’m simply going to be thankful for each minute of today and find the blessings in the small things.

Whitetail Season – A Family Favorite

Yesterday was a very exciting day for all around our family.  Since moving to the country a couple of years ago, we have always been able to maintain a freezer full of venison.  Thank God! This is a big savings at the grocery store.  More than just the expense it saves us, we really enjoyed the time together as a family preparing for hunting season and cold/mornings waiting for our next freezer full of meat to walk out of the woods.

Our schedules around here have been a little insane lately.  Kenan with his new job and me with my full time job of kids, home schooling, events, and Pink Zebra.  We were actually starting to wonder if we were going to be able to take a buck this year or wait for youth weekend for our oldest daughter to harvest a doe for us.  

Mid morning yesterday a cold front blew in.  Now to any hunter you know what a cold front brings, frisky deer.  I ran and threw some extra corn out with a special “seasoning” that drives deer nuts.  Then we waited.

About 2 hours later out walks a nice buck.  Kenan grabs his .308 and the kids and I prepare for the gunshot.  Kenan calls his hand me down rifle from his grandfather, Death becomes Her.  She is one of the oldest yet most accurate guns in our collection.  Kenan just doesn’t have the heart to retire her yet.. 

This buck should clearly be an 8 pointer! Look at the length on those G2s. Our buck population around here has a genetic link of not having brow tines.  Very new and strange to me.  The buck our oldest daughter shot last season was similar to this one.

2013 Harvest

Well, brow tines or not, we thankfully have meat for our freezer.  We might take a doe during youth or a spike if the opportunity presents himself.. lol.  We love venison stew, fried back strap, back strap bacon wraps, and of course we love to make sausage.  We need some hogs to come out and play now!  We prefer a 60/40 hog/deer ratio in our sausage.

This is house the hubby and I spent our evening yesterday.

Yeah that’s me holding the guts in while Kenan gets through the rib cage.  Not the most fantastic smell in the world but hey, whatever puts meat on the table and it’s doesn’t get any more organic than this!

After a tiring evening the children invaded my space and we watched a movie together.

Hello! Leave me some room!

Our doe herd came back this morning. We have a doe that dropped twins earlier this year.  We can now tell that one is a doe and the other a button buck.  I look forward to watching him grow.
